The race for Japanese pitcher and outfielder is officially heating up.
After being posted on Friday night, Ohtani started to cut teams off of his list on Sunday informing several teams they are no longer being considered. The biggest came in the form of the New York Yankees who were considered the favorites for Ohtani.
Multiple reports are stating that Ohtani’s list will include most of the West Coast teams outside of the Oakland Athletics. The Seattle Mariners are rumored to be the heavy favorites.
But don’t count out the Chicago Cubs just yet.
According to multiple reports, the Cubs and Texas Rangers are the two non-West Coast teams on his finalists list:
Hearing Rangers, Cubs are only 2 non-West Coast teams on Ohtani's meeting list. Rangers not saying a word.

Now being reported that the #Rangers and #Cubs will also meet with the Shohei Ohtani team. They are in addition to #Mariners, #SFGiants and #Padres. I have not seen any word yet about the #Dodgers.

The 23-year-old must sign with a team before Dec. 22 and will have meetings with teams next week.
