The 2017 MLB Draft is underway as teams draft what they hope is the future of their organization.
After finishing at 78-84 and fourth place in the AL Central, they held the 11th overall pick in the draft.
With that selection, the White Sox took one of the best bats in the draft by drafting Missouri State third baseman Jake Burger.
The 6-foot-2, 220 pound Burger was ranked as the No. 16 overall prospect in the draft by MLB.com.
Here’s a scouting report on Burger via Minor League Ball:
Burger’s most obvious strength is his bat. Being a corner infielder, there are more expections resting on his bat than any other part of his game, and he certainly doesn’t disappoint. A dangerous offensive piece, Burger is easily the Bears’ best player, swatting 21 home runs and batting at an impressive .349 clip in 2016.
While Burger’s bat might be his strength, his defense will need some work. It’s possible he could eventually move to first base for the White Sox.
