With the 2018 NBA Draft just hours, there’s a lot of talk out there about teams moving up into the top 3 to land the player atop their draft boards. It happens every year and we really shouldn’t be surprised.
But when it’s the Chicago Bulls involved in the talks, things get more interesting.
There are multiple reports out that the Bulls want to move into the top 3 to land a big talent in either Mo Bamba or Luka Doncic, both expected to go top 5 and possibly top 3 depending on how the team’s boards are set up. Chicago would love to not draft for a need and rather grab a generational talent if one is available.
They have already been linked to Michael Porter Jr. and have brought in the wing for a workout. Porter Jr. has expressed his love for the city of Chicago and has said it would be cool to play for Chicago. The Bulls have also been linked to both Wendell Carter Jr. and Trae Young as of late.
But now the rumblings heading into the draft are that the Bulls want to move up into the top 5. NBC Sports Chicago’s Vincent Goodwill is reporting that the Bulls are showing interest in moving up from No. 7 to either No. 3 or No. 4 but Bulls management has reportedly denied that claim.
Here’s what Goodwill wrote:
According to several league sources the Bulls have inquired about moving up from the seventh spot in the draft to either the third or fourth spot, positions currently occupied by the Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies, respectively.
Team sources tell NBCSportsChicago.com there’s no truth to the speculation, nor would they entertain the notion of such efforts geared toward selecting Porter Jr., who only played three games this past season at Missouri, sandwiched between back surgery in mid-November.
Draft Express writer Jonathan Givnoy also sent out a tweet about the Bulls and the report that they are looking to move up:
The Bulls are reportedly exploring the possibility of moving up to No. 4 or No. 5, where a big man who complements Lauri Markkanen, like Mo Bamba, could make some sense. If Jaren Jackson, Bamba and Carter are gone, Michael Porter is a name you hear. ESPN: https://t.co/JZ0l0l1Ksd

As for the player Chicago wants to land in the Top 5? Names like Bamba, Doncic, Wendell Carter Jr. and even Jaren Jackson are the ones that keep coming up if the Bulls do make a move.
Chicago would love to pair another big man with Lauri Markkanen but more importantly a player that can be a corner stone for this franchise for years to come.
