With their fourth round pick and first pick on day three of the draft, the Chicago Bears selected outside linebackerJoel Iyiegbuniwe from Western Kentucky. Iyiegbuniwe, 6-foot-1, 220-pounds, was first team All-Conference for Conference USA and led Western Kentucky in sacks with 11.5 last season.
He has a strong ability to drop back in coverage as he ran a 4.6 at the scouting combine. Iyiegbuniwe was constantly improving from the start of his college career as his sack and tackle totals went up each seasons.
It’s unknown where the Bears plan on playing Iyiegbuniwe as he appears to be too small to play on the edge. He has good size and could play a similar role as to what Christian Jones did.
Idyiegbuniwe will also provide the team with special teams depth similar to when the team drafted inside linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski two seasons ago. He will be more of a project to start rather than a prospect that will be ready to go when the season starts.
