As predicted, the NBA made big headlines right away at 6:00 p.m. EST with the start of the 2019 Free Agency period. Several deals were announced before and after the official start headlined by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving teaming up in Brooklyn as well as Kemba Walker heading to Boston and Malcolm Brogdon going to Indianapolis.
The Chicago Bulls weren’t able to land one of the big fish in free agency, which was expected, but it didn’t stop them from making a signing. Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Bulls have agreed to a three-year deal with Thaddeus Young:
The deal is worth $41-million, bringing the forward to the Windy City as a viable option off the bench. Young is also reunited with former teammate Zach LaVine who he played with in Minnesota.
The 12-year veteran spent the first seven years of his career in Philadelphia before splitting time in Minnesota and Brooklyn from 2014-16. He spent the previous three years with the Indiana Pacers. Young has averaged 13.4 points, 6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in his career.
While it wasn’t a big splash, Young is productive on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. He should be a valuable role player off the bench.
