There’s no denying that Chicago is one of the world’s truly great sporting cities. It’s one of the only places in the US that has two major league baseball teams, on top of the fact that it is home to Wrigley Field, the White Sox, the Bears, the Cubs, and Blackhawks.
Chi-town has been a finalist candidate for the Summer Olympics several times, as well as having hosted the Pan-American Games, the Special Olympics, the Gay Games, and Warrior Games at various points in its long and colorful history.
It should, therefore, come as no surprise that the city has some truly special sporting events lined up in the year ahead that look set to enter the annals of sporting history. Whether you’re a long-time local or just planning to pay a visit to the city voted the world’s greatest sporting city sometime this year, here are the top events that are truly unmissable.
Big Men’s Basketball Tournament
One of the world’s largest single-elimination basketball tournaments returns to Chicago for the 10th time at the end of March, returning to its Midwest roots following a brief stint in Washington DC. All of the biggest teams in college basketball will be descending on the Chicago United Center for four full days of action. Crowds are expected to be bigger than ever before, so make sure to grab your tickets while you still can.
Yankees vs White Sox
Two of the biggest and most iconic baseball teams in world history will be facing off at Chi-town’s very own Guaranteed Rate Field on June 26th this year, in what promises to be one of the most intense games of the season. Who will win is anyone’s guess, so make sure to stay ahead by checking all the latest odds out on the online sports betting platforms. While you’re at it, why not use a platform that offers welcome bonuses of up to $1500, so that you get the maximum bang for your buck?
NASCAR Weekend
The ARCA Menards Series will be setting up shop at the Chicagoland Speedway on June 27th for four whole days of balls-to-the-wall NASCAR racing action. Expect all of the biggest drivers in the business to be there, including Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart, and Jeff Gordon. There are few better ways to kick off the summer sporting season than with some gold old fashioned NASCAR insanity.
Chicago Marathon
The world’s fourth-largest marathon and one of the most widely-televised sporting events in the US will be playing out on Chicago’s streets on the 13th of October. The Bank of America Chicago Marathon 2019 will feature the world’s running elite and will draw out crowds of over 100,000 people to the historic downtown area. You can stand with the crowd on the street or you can book yourself some special VIP tickets to view the whole shebang in comfort and privacy. Just make sure you’ve sponsored a runner beforehand.
Chicago’s big sporting teams are only part of what makes the city great. Equally important are the world-class sporting events that choose this city as their home year after year. Make sure to mark these dates in your calendar for the best year yet.
