If there is anyone left doubting Corey Crawford’s goaltending ability out there, they’ll have another 6 seasons to further evaluate the Blackhawk after the club announced a contract extension with the goalie through the 2019 – 2020 NHL season Monday. The 6-year contract extension announcement comes on Crawford’s day with the Stanley Cup, a fitting way to express the club’s faith in the 28-year old goaltender.
Crawford silenced critics both in-house and out last season, at one point giving voice to over 20,000 Madhouse loyals who cheered his name after his stellar performance in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He went on to own a league-best 1.84 GAA while recording a .932 save percentage and 1 shutout in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season before helping the Blackhawks capture the Stanley Cup. Crawford and Ray Emery earned the Jennings Trophy together as the club that allowed the fewest regular season goals.
