After suffering a broken left index finger against the Chargers in the second preseason game, Major Wright is finally healthy. He had the pin in his left index finger removed on Tuesday, in time for him to practice this week for the Bears opener against the Lions.
It’ll be interesting how the Bears move forward with a healthy Wright. Chris Harris is the starter at free safety, Danieal Manning at strong safety, and D.J. Moore is the starter at nickelback.
Bears general manager said the Bears plan to take it slow with Wright, but Angelo also said that it’s up to the Bears coaches. The smart thing to do would be to start Wright at free safety, and move Chris Harris to strong safety, where he’s more comfortable and can play closer to the line of scrimmage.
That leaves the Bears with a decision on Manning. They could move him back to nickelback, where he played well and would make the most sense. Manning however performed well at strong safety during the end of the preseason, while Harris struggled at free safety, especially in coverage and with missed tackles.
Things are about to get really interesting really soon with the opener against the Lions looming.
