ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes that Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles is not going anywhere
With the rumblings revolving around Ryan Poles and his future as the Chicago Bears general manager, ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reason to believe he’ll remain in the Windy City beyond this year.
“My expectation is Ryan Poles is going to be there,” Schefter said. “There’s always a surprise that could happen, but I expect him to be there (Chicago).”
Many have been grappling with the question of if Poles have earned the right to be apart of the next head coaching hire for the Chicago Bears. It appears that he will have a major say in who the next leader of this franchise will be, but he will still have to prove to his higher-ups that he can be trusted in the draft room.
Unfortunately, Poles has had just as many misses as hits in his time turning in draft cards for the Chicago Bears. Draft picks like Zacch Pickens, Kiran Amegadjie and Velus Jones Jr are day-two misses that fans will consistently call Poles out on when given the opportunity.
Luckily for the young general manager, his massive trade with the Carolina Panthers to acquire the eventual number-one pick in the 2024 draft is one that could benefit the franchise for decades. Getting the rights to draft Caleb Williams in that deal, along with Darnell Wright, Tryrique Stevenson, Tory Taylor and a 2025 second-rounder for Bryce Young will forever be a trade that will go down as one of the best that the organization has ever made.
Why the Chicago Bears need to sync up Ryan Poles’ contract with the next head coach hire
With the biggest hire in the Chicago Bears’ franchise history coming up, reports a couple of weeks ago suggested that there could be some reason for concern with head coaching candidates if Poles did not have solid job security.
This report from Schefter suggests that the top coaching options in the eyes of the Chicago Bears brass will not have to worry about being tied to Poles’ hip in a negative fashion. If these candidates can see that the higher-ups have faith in Poles to keep him around, they know that there is less to worry about on their end as well.
The constant connection over the past few weeks between Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears is as strong as any major rumor across the NFL. If the front office is as serious about Johnson as they are leading on, they know how important it is to have the least amount of worries possible for the offensive guru when it comes time to interview him here in the coming weeks. Having a firm decision on Poles is an easy way for Johnson to check off a box that he has every right to worry about when making the leap to become a first-time head coach in the NFL.
With the Chicago Bears’ future so bright, it’s important that everyone in the organization is on the same page from top to bottom. This will benefit their hopeful franchise quarterback Caleb Williams and the young core around him. If the choice to bring Poles back is already been made, it makes life a lot easier following Sunday’s game against Green Bay.
