The Air Jordan XI is one of the most iconic sneakers in history and has seen plenty of different colorways release over time.
One of those colorways is the red and black version that has been nicknamed “Bred” over the years. The colorway pays homage to Michael Jordan and his performance during the 1996 NBA Playoffs, helping lead the Chicago Bulls to their fourth NBA Championship.
Now, 23 years later the “Bred” colorway is returning to OG form. Jordan Brand officially announced the return of the “Bred” colorway as part of their 2019 Holiday season drop. Jordan Brand began releasing a colorway of the XI’s every December for the first time in 2012, with that colorway also being the Bred.
This year’s version will release on Dec. 14th:
First worn on the NBA courts April 26, 1996, the Air Jordan XI Black/True Red-White signaled playoff seriousness. The colorway, the third for the silhouette, took a title and started a second three-peat. Fittingly, it will release again this year, and for the first time since 2012, to mark the 10th anniversary of Jordan Brand’s annual holiday celebration of the Jordan XI.
The shoe ranks high among Jordan grails. It has, like all the greats, transcended basketball. And as with all truly classic sneakers, it is coveted by athletes of all stripes.
This iconic shoe is loved by many and will be a hot release. Even athletes like New Orleans’ Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan is excited about the release:
“You have to have the stars perfectly align, to have perfect timing, to get a pair. To wear them, you know you are rocking elite heat at all times.”
To celebrate the official announcement of the shoe, Nike released a limited amount on the SNKRS app earlier on Thursday. For those of you that weren’t lucky to get a pair today, you will have to wait until the Dec. 14th release which will be a full family size run and will be available at select retailers across the country for $220. Make sure to sign up to be notified on the SNKRS app for the drop!
