Next up for the Air Jordan signature line is the XXXIV and it just might be the most influential line of performance footwear in basketball history.
Jordan Brand officially unveiled the newest shoe in the signature line that got its start back in 1984 with the Air Jordan I. But as we get ready to tip off a new NBA season for 2019-20, the XXXIV is ready to set the bar on performance, comfort and game-changing innovation.
The unveiling took place this past weekend in New York with the latest star to be signed to the Jordan Brand family, Zion Williamson, testing out the shoe and taking flight on a court in the harlem.
This will be one of the lightest pairs of basketball shoes created by Jordan Brand with a size 9 weighing at just 13.1 oz. But that’s not all. One of the main new features on the shoe is the Jordan Eclipse Plate which was introduced specifically for this shoe. This technology, formed by two Pebax pieces and a forefoot Zoom Air unit, helps provide optimal explosion off the foot.
Check out some photos of the new shoe here:
“The Eclipse Plate takes the inherent values of the propulsion Flight Plate, a technology that is well-loved by Jordan athletes, and helps reduce the overall stiffness and strips down the weight,” said Jordan Brand designer Tate Kuerbis. “We achieve this by thinking about the type of plate materials used and how we can harness the principle value of each element.”
Nike broke down just what the new Eclipse Plate is:
An evolution of the Jordan Flight Speed plate, the proprietary Jordan Brand Eclipse Plate is designed for smooth transition from midfoot to forefoot, helping the athlete be more controlled and jump faster.
The positioning of the Eclipse Plate unlocks the sensation of the forefoot Zoom Air unit, which provides bounce and lateral support.
The plate is made of two Pebax pieces with a hollow core where foam would normally exist, exposing the Zoom Air unit and helping provide stability.
As for the details, here is what you can see on the shoe which pays homage to the past:
- The number 23 is featured in Morse code on the vamp of the shoe.
- On the outsole, “J4 – 34, 2.89-2019” is featured to represent the 30th anniversary from the Air Jordan IV to the Air Jordan XXXIV.
- Each colorway will have unique and discoverable marks (for example, the heel counter branding is different on each colorway).
The shoe will release at retailers nationwide on September 25th. You can see these shoes on the court as they will be worn by select Jordan Brand athletes and partner high school and collegiate teams.
