As if Bruce Chen hasn’t hurt the Sox enough this year, AJ Pierzynski will site until at least Tuesday after being hit by a Chen pitch in the third inning of Fridays demoralizing 5-1 loss to the Royals. AJ said of the injury, “Obviously, until it came back and said X-rays were negative, you know, there’s always … you know”, yes AJ we know. The HBP loaded the bases, an opportunity the Sox were unable to capitalize on … shocked, I’m sure.
AJ is hitting .400 (14/35) over his last 10 games and has built up his average to .296 on the year and is leading the AL in innings caught.
Replacing AJ is back-up Catcher Tyler Flowers. Flowers is 2/13 since being recalled to take the spot of Ramon Castro.
