The Chicago Sky had a down year in 2024. The Sky finished the season with a 13-26 record, which left them with the worst record in the Eastern Conference.
The Sky have a young core to build around. Chicago’s 22-year-old power forward, Angel Reese, showed promise during her rookie season, making the WNBA All-Star and WNBA All-Rookie Team in 2024. She was the league’s rebound leader.
The Sky selected Reese with the No. 7 pick in the 2024 draft after her impressive college career with LSU. She helped lead the Tigers to a NCAA championship in 2023.
Chicago Sky urged to pass on Angel Reese’s former teammate
Jula Poe with the Chicago Tribune urged the Sky to stay away from one of Reese’s former teammates at LSU in her column on “New Year’s resolutions for Chicago basketball.” While she thinks Aneesah Morrow is a talented player, Morrow might not fit in the Sky’s system.
“Simeon alumna, former DePaul star and current LSU standout Aneesah Morrow is expected to declare for the draft this spring,” Poe wrote. “Draft boards have shifted considerably since the start of the college season, but Morrow is projected to be a top-10 pick and could become a new centerpiece for a building team. The Chicago area has made a sizable impact on the WNBA with players such as Candace Parker, Jewell Loyd and Allie Quigley, and Morrow is expected to be the next player to carry on that tradition.
“The Sky could bring Morrow home to Chicago, but their positional needs don’t match up with the forward’s skill set. The best situation for Morrow would be to land with a franchise that offers a good fit for her skills as both a scorer and a defender — even if that means playing against, rather than for, her hometown team.”
Aneesah Morrow has been a star in college basketball
Morrow averaged 25.7 points per game at DePaul during the 2022-23 season. She averaged 16.4 with the Tigers last season.
Morrow has been a crucial contributor to LSU this season. She’s averaging 18.4 points, 14.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in 2024-25. LSU is 15-0 and ranked No. 6.
