First baseman Anthony Rizzo is joining a new team this year but don’t panic Chicago Cubs fans, it’s not what you think.
Rizzo is officially the newest athlete of the fast-growing sports drink BODYARMOR. The partnership was officially announced Wednesday morning.
“I’m really excited about it,” Rizzo said in an interview with ChiCitySports.com. “They approached my agent Marc Pollack about it in Spring Training. They sent over some product right away and I loved it. I love all the flavors.”
While Rizzo doesn’t do his offseason routine of working out eight times a week in the regular season, he still uses the products during workouts and after his time in the batting cages. For him, picking a sports drink wasn’t easy and he’s pleased that he chose BODYARMOR.
“I’m kinda picky when it comes to drinks like this but I liked it right away,” he said. “It’s an all natural drink and has coconut, vitamins and electrolytes in it. It tastes really good and keeps my body going through all of the tough workouts.”
The 26-year-old is one of the key pieces to a Cubs team that entered the 2016 season with high expectations. Through 25 games this season, Rizzo leads the majors with 26 RBI’s while hitting 8 home runs and slugging .575. He’s helped the Cubs get out to a MLB-best 19-6 record.
With big expectations on the North Side, the Cubs have the city buzzing with their stellar play.
“It’s a fun atmosphere around the clubhouse,” Rizzo said about the 2016 Cubs. “We keep it as loose of a clubhouse as humanly possible. It’s a great group of guys.”
Now the all-star Rizzo will join a team of great BODYARMOR athletes that include Mike Trout and Buster Posey on the baseball side. They also have endorsements from Dez Bryant, Klay Thompson, Richard Sherman, James Harden and Skylar Diggins.
As the newcomer, Rizzo is happy to join the already impressive list of atheltes teamed up with BODYARMOR.
“It’s really cool and a unique situation,” Rizzo said. “Obviously the guys you named, Trout and Posey are two of the best in the business. It’s a really young group overall with good athletes.”
Rizzo will be an instrumental part of spreading the BODYARMOR brand not only in Chicago, but across the country as well. The sports drink comes in multiple flavors including Fruit Punch, Orange Mango, Strawberry Banana, Lemon Lime, Blackout Berry, Grape and Mixed Berry.
“My favorite has to be the lemon lime,” Rizzo said. “But honestly all of the flavors are good.”
The Cubs use BODYARMOR at Wrigley Field and on road trips to fuel their bodies after workouts and sessions before games. A few other players have even caught on to the sports drink’s great taste, including newcomer Ben Zobrist.
“Joe (Maddon) really likes it too,” Rizzo said. “He loves it because it has coconut in it. A lot of the guys really like the product.”
Along with the signing of Rizzo, BODYARMOR also announced a partnership with MLB.
“We are excited about the opportunity to work with BODYARMOR as they seek to spread the word about their products by partnering with other Major League baseball players who have become fans of the sports drink,,” said Richard White, MLBPA General Manager, Business Affairs via press release.
BODYARMOR is a premium sports drink that provides superior hydration and is packed with electrolytes, coconut water, and vitamins. BODYARMOR is high in potassium and low sodium and contains natural flavors, natural sweetener and no artificial colors. BODYARMOR is now available in 8-great tasting flavors.
