With winter meetings starting up this week for the MLB, a lot of Sox fans are looking to see what the team will be up to and how Rick Hahn plans on improving the roster.
According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers when talking to Jeff Passan, the Sox won’t be pursuing George Springer.
This is sucks because the Sox need another outfielder desperately now that Mazara is no longer with the team after he was non-tendered. Not that he will be missed, but it shows that the White Sox have identified a need in RF and Mazara wasn’t it. There’s going to be a ton of interest in Springer across the MLB, so he will likely come with a large price tag that the Sox just might not be willing to pay.
Now it doesn’t sound like the Sox aren’t going to be involved in making some moves, it just might not be for someone like Springer. Some other names being rumored to have the Sox’s interest are Joc Pederson and Michael Brantley, both of whom would be welcomed to Chicago with open arms. Big upgrades in the outfield. Both of those guys have a ton of playoff experience and have made it to the World Series, Pederson most recently being part of the World Series Champion Dodgers this past season.
Let’s hope this only applies to the RF position and when Rogers says the Sox won’t “be fishing in the deep end” they aren’t taking themselves out of the running for someone like Trevor Bauer.
