First a quick recap of today’s game.
Freddy Garcia was again awesome for the Sox as he went 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits. Freddy is now 5-3 with an era just under 5. Freddy started the year awful but has bounced back and really has been the Sox best pithcer. The bullpen was good tonight as Thornton and Jenks both went an inning allowing only 1 hit in the 2 innings. On offense the Sox did it via the long ball tonight as all 4 runs came off home runs. Andruw Jones belted a solo shot to center in the 2nd to give the Sox a 1-0 lead. Rios then went deep in the 6th and Quentin capped it off wih the game winning home run in the 7th which scored A.J. The Sox finish off this series 1-2 and face Cleveland at home next.
Back to my banter. I was on the Internet radio show, “The Huddle” last night,l and my main focus was blowing up this team and starting over. Paul Konerko has an MLB lead 16 home runs this season and I would guess that many teams would like to have power like that going into a playoff run. One team that always comes to mind is the Angels. There have been talks about the Angels trying to get Konerko as well as Derek Lee from the Cubs. As much as Paulie has meant to this team and city it is time to move on. The Sox need to get younger and faster and Konerko is neither of those. Vicideo is a project in Triple-A and many do not think that he is MLB ready. Mark kotsay would most likely be a permanent option for the Sox unless they got Adrian Gonzalez.
Another player that many want moved is A.J. Pierzynski. AJ is sub par behind the plate and is not producing at the plate. Some teams, like the Texas Rangers perhaps, would like a good veteran catcher behind the plate as they think they can make a deep run this year. We would not get the best players in return but we would get decent prospects that we could groom and hopefully bring up to have successful careers, we all know how John Danks has worked out!
Mike Lowell. Would he be a good fit in Chicago? Most are thinking no! Some say he would be an ok vet to add to the bench and some say he sucks and we have no business giving up any prospects for him. Thats the side I lean towards. Mike has abig contract and signing him would only defeat the purpose of trying to BLOW IT UP! Mike has had his moments but lets just all hope we stay away from him.
This has been another addition of Baseball banter with Patrick Howard
