Weaver, 44, is viewed as a rising star in the coaching community and is coming off a season in which the Dolphins finished fourth in total defense while holding opponents to just 314.3 yards of total offense per game, and 21.4 points per contest.
“He’s a phenomenal coach, great leader,” Dolphins veteran Calais Campbell told the Palm Beach Post, of Weaver, earlier this season. “I think his passion for the game and his desire to win is what separates him, which I think everybody that does anything wants that, but he just does it at an elite level.”
Before becoming the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator in 2024, Weaver spent the previous three seasons on John Harbaugh’s staff, including as the assistant head coach and defensive line coach during the 2022 and 2023 campaigns.
Bears general manager Ryan Poles, president and CEO Kevin Warren, chairman George McCaskey, senior director of player personnel Jeff King, executive vice president of people and culture & chief human resources officer Liz Geist, and director of football administration Matt Feinstein conducted Weaver’s interview.
Chicago is potentially the most desirable coaching vacancy this hiring cycle.
In addition to interviewing Weaver, the Bears also have interviews scheduled with the likes of Pete Carroll, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, as well as Detroit Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn.
