Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson made a strong first impression on several of his players, including actually scaring one of his offense’s premier playmakers.
In his second season in a Bears uniform, and first catching passes from quarterback Caleb Williams, wide receiver DJ Moore caught 98 passes for 966 yards and six touchdowns, despite being the focal point of a wildly inconsistent offense.
Johnson was hired in part to change that last part, and to get the most out of Williams as he enters the next stage of his development.
Ben Johnson has strong message for Bears players
Moore, though, revealed just how strong a first impression Johnson made during their first meeting shortly after his January 20th hiring.
“I was left with being scared,” Moore said, during a recent appearance on Up and Adams. “He said be comfortable being uncomfortable, so … ”
Johnson seems to be calling on his players, such as Moore to embrace the challenge that it takes to improve, which the Bears are going to need to do– and quickly in an NFC North division that also houses the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings who all made the postseason in 2024 and could be considered Super Bowl contenders in 2025.
But, with Johnson’s influence, and Williams making strides during his second season throwing to the likes of Moore, Rome Odunze, and tight end Cole Kmet, if the Bears buy in, Chicago could be looking at a rapid turnaround.
