The Bears continued Sunday with their fourth straight day of practice in Bourbonnais, IL. We got a first hand look at the days practice which brought some surprises to Camp Lovie.
This was the second day in pads for the team, and majority of fans know when the pads go on, camp get’s exciting.
I’ve been to camp the past 3 years and I’ve never felt this much excitement buzzing through the air.
Let’s get a recap on Day 4…
The receiving core continues to look impressive working with Cutler.
-Players like Eric Weems, Dane Sanzenbacher, Joe Anderson and Devin Thomas looking good.
-Marshall and Jeffery continue to impress me. Would be shocked if Jeffery isn’t top 3 when depth chart comes out.
-The Bears look like they plan on using the TE’s more often, especially Kellen Davis who had a nice day today.
-Devin Hester did practice despite hurting his ankle last night. Hester looked sharp on a few out routes right in front of me.
-Every time the offense makes a nice play, you hear “oooooohs and ahhhhhs” from the crowd. Excitement is in the air.
Bears players comment on playing in pads for the first couple days of training camp.
-Gabe Carimi is excited to get back out in pads. “There was a lot of positives for not playing with pads on for 10 months. And finally go back out there after a whole year of not playing. But there is still work to be done”
-“It was a good start. We still have a long way to go technique wise and knowing what to do and when to do it” Commented Roberto Garza.
Rookie Shea McClellin has the spotlight on him, but the rookie has struggled the first couple days of camp.
-Rookie James Brown had Shea’s number twice, early on.
-McClellin did beat a 5th string TE to get to Blanchard for a “sack“. But that’s a battle he should ALWAYS win.
-Shea commented after practice, “Today, my pass rushing wasn’t very good so I was kind of disappointed.”
-Shea does know he has to improve. “I’m pretty hard on myself so I’ve got to do better than that.” the rookie commented after practice.
-Lovie Smith also commented on Shea, “He is going to earn his money based on what he does rushing the passer. Got a long ways to go.”
Lovie ended practice with a special full contact “live” drill with the lower part of the roster. A surprise, but treat to the fans at camp.
-The Bears will have an off-day tomorrow.
