Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy seems to be a strong candidate to become the Chicago Bears‘ next head coach, and he’s drawing praise from one of his former quarterbacks as he continues to take coaching interviews.

“Hell of a ball coach,” New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said of McCarthy, during a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

McCarthy and Rodgers spent 13 seasons together in Green Bay, including winning a Super Bowl together, so it’s easy to see why Rodgers would have major respect for the former Packers and Cowboys head coach.
Why Aaron Rodgers is Impressed by Mike McCarthy
During Mccarthy’s tenure, the Packers posted a 125-77-2 record while making the postseason nine times.
Rodgers, though, was particularly impressed by the job McCarthy did this season, while navigating myriad injuries in the final year of his contract with the Cowboys.
“What he did this year,” Rodgers continued. “With the amount of injuries [the Cowboys] had, I thought it was amazing. Hearing the guys talk about him, I wasn’t surprised. Anybody who’s played for Mike, and gets to know him a little bit, and gets to feel that great big heart that he’s got, it’s special.”

The Cowboys finished 7-10, despite losing quarterback Dak Prescott in Week 8 and being forced to overcome significant injuries to star players at all three levels of the defense.
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys opted not to renew McCarthy’s contract, leaving him free to be hired by any other team, without Dallas receiving any sort of compensation.
McCarthy has reportedly drawn significant interest from the New Orleans Saints, in addition to the Bears, since the Cowboys announced that they were parting ways with the 61-year-old Super Bowl-winning coach.
