The Bears resumed practice today after a three day lay off.
LAKE FOREST- The Bears got back on the practice field today in preparation for Friday’s preseason game against Oakland, but they did so with several notable players still dealing with injuries. Quarterback Matt Blanchard {the most recent injured Bear} is out indefinitely as he explores his options regarding his hand fracture.
Defensive tackle Henry Melton and wide receiver Earl Bennett are still out as they recover from their concussions. Neither player has been anywhere near the field since they were removed from action on August 3rd {Bennett} and August 8th {Melton} respectively.
Linebacker D.J. Williams {calf} and offensive lineman Johnathan Scott {knee} were both present at today’s workout but are still sidelined. So far both players are questionable at best for Friday’s game in Oakland. The good news is, both men continue to improve in their recovery.
Defensive tackle Corvey Irvin is still battling a sprained ankle; long snapper Pat Mannelly and fullback Harvey Unga are still out with rib injuries, while defensive end Cheta Ozougwu was held out with a hamstring injury.
Nate Collins has been filling in for Melton on the defensive line, while the bottom of the wide receiver depth chart has been moved around in Bennett’s absence. The sudden emergence of Jordan Mills seems to have taken attention away from Scott. Then there is rookie Jon Bostic who has filled in quite nicely for Williams.
Tony Fiammetta has taken advantage of all the reps he can get with Unga on the shelf. While Cornelius Washington, Kyle Moore, Aston Whiteside and Josh Williams will get an extended look until Ozougwu returns.
Finally, James Anderson and rookie Brandon Hartson have been sharing the long snapping duties in Mannelly’s absence. Follow me on Twitter @GabeSalgado82
