According to a tweet from LB Lance Briggs, Bears rookie LB Jon Bostic has been fined $21, 000 for his hit on Chargers WR Mike Willie, August 15. In his tweet, Briggs criticized the decision.
“Shaking my head moment. NFL fines Bostic $21k for his clean hit against the Chargers,” Briggs tweeted.
Briggs critically compared Bostic’s hit to the one which ended Dolphin TE Dustin Keller’s season August 17 in a match against the Texans. The tackle on Keller, which tore several ligaments in the tight end’s knee, was deemed a clean hit by NFL rules.
Criticism of newly implemented NFL regulations aimed at combating concussions has gained steam in the last few days. Some players have said the new rules force them to tackle low, which carries with it the risk of causing equally severe injuries.
With numerous lower leg injuries already this preseason, the debate will undoubtedly grow more rancorous.
