The Bears made their first wave of cuts today parting with 14 players. The Bears must cut 13 more players by Saturday at 5:00 PM to reach the NFL’s 53-man roster. The list of players waived included:
- G Johan Asiata
- FB Eddie Williams
- WR Andy Fantuz
- WR Onrea Jones
- LB Chris Johnson
- LB Tressor Baptiste
- LB Deron Minor
- CB Antareis Bryan
- CB Ryan Jones
- T Josh Davis
- P Spencer Lanning
- DE/Longsnapper Jake Laptad
- C Alex Linnenkohl
- WR Jimmy Young
After watching nearly every single snap of pre-season football by the Bears, the only names that jump off this list are WR Andy Fantuz, and FB Eddie Williams. When the Bears signed the 6’4” WR from Canada, Andy Fantuz, immediately Bear fans started speculating about how important the signing was. Fantuz only brought in 2 catches for 13 yards during the pre-season.
FB Eddie Williams might have gotten bumped from the roster after the Bears expanded the role of TE Kyle Adams to include FB. From what I saw of Eddie Williams, he sprung several nice runs by Marion Barber through out the pre-season. He impressed me much more then Will Ta’ufo’ou who remains on the roster. Depending on how Bears coaches evaluate Kyle Adams, Ta’uo’ou could be left off the 53 man roster as well.
Which players made strong pushes to remain on the 53 man roster?
- DT Amobi Okoye
- WR Dane Sanzenbacher
- TE/FB Kyle Adams
- DE Mario Addison
- DE Nick Reed
- LB Dom DeCicco
- RB Chester Taylor
- WR Kris Adams
- Every other UDFA whose last name isn’t Sanzenbacher.
