In just two weeks the Chicago Bears will report to Bourbonnais, Illinois for the start of what should be a very interesting training camp. Chicago enters the new league year with a new coaching staff and a quarterback entering his second year, but first as the starter of the franchise.
To say there’s a lot of excitement is an understatement.
We’ve spent all offseason discussing the possibilities of how good this offense can be under former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. The Andy Reid disciple seems to be next in line of staffers to have success in head coaching positions in the NFL.
With Trubisky entering the season as the starter, there’s a lot of hype surrounding the former UNC quarterback. Trubisky is not only adjusting to life as a starting quarterback in the NFL, but as a leader of a franchise that is looking to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
In the offseason, Trubisky has focused on football and what he can do to better this team. He’s been praised by teammates during OTA’s and the latest comes from his starting running back Jordan Howard.
Howard recently spoke to Larry Mayer of ChicagoBears.com and dropped this nugget about Trubisky:
“He asserted himself a lot last year, but I definitely feel like a lot more people are listening to him,” said running back Jordan Howard. “He has a lot greater command of the locker room and stuff because he’s the quarterback for sure now.”
We heard similar things last season when Josh Sitton told reporters that Trubisky had command of the huddle right away.
That’s exactly what you want to hear about a guy who you traded up to draft and hope is the permanent solution at quarterback. If everything goes to plan, Chicago could be one of the sleeper teams next season and make a big jump similar to what the Los Angeles Rams have done.
Trubisky will get a big test early in the season when the Bears travel to Green Bay to open up the season on Sunday Night Football. For more on the Bears, plese check back with ChiCitySports.com.
