The Bears suffered many key injuries in Sundays game against the Washington Redskins but none more worrying than QB Jay Cutler going down in the first half with a groin injury.
There is no word as of yet about when Cutler might return and an MRI is scheduled for tomorrow morning. Backup quarterback Josh McCown came into the game and gave a very good performance coming off the bench which does a lot to ease this reporter’s mind. Especially after what happened to the Bears in 2011 following Cutlers thumb injury.
McCown was briefly the only QB on the Bears roster though, so after the game the Bears moved fast and re-signed perennial backup Jordan Palmer who they originally picked up in the off-season. The Bears later made the decision to proceed with two quarterbacks.
Palmer originally came into the league drafted by the Redskins in the 6th round of the 2007 draft and later moved to the Bengals under his brother Carson and then Jaguars.
He is a decidedly middle-of-the-road QB but if all goes according to plan he can hopefully stick to holding a clipboard (and not the fate of the Bears season) in his hands so there’s no need to panic quite yet.
