It must be the cleats.
The Bears signed Earl Bennett to a contract extension today. Bennett who is arguably the best receiver on the team, will get a four year $18 million dollar contract extension. The contract includes $9 million guaranteed, and a $6 million signing bonus.
The four year receiver has been the go to guy for Jay Cutler, when they have both been healthy. That’s no surprise however, as the two have developed chemistry since their days at Vanderbilt together.
For Bennett, Chicago has always been home.
“It’s home, man,”The organization has been loyal to me. I just wanted to be loyal to them. … They had the first shot at it, and they took advantage of it. And I appreciate it.” Bennett told the Chicago Tribune.
In just six games this season, Bennett has 18 receptions for 276 yards and one touchdown. He’s been bothered with a chest injury that sidelined him a few games.
The Bears will now look to give highly touted running back Matt Forte an extension, but that will more then likely wait until the end of the season. Johnny Knox is another offensive player with a contract expiring after the season’s end.
Defensive players Corey Graham, Tim Jennings, and Israel Idonije also have contracts that expire after this season.
