The Bears signed former Cowboy running back Marion Barber to a two year, $5million contract. Barber was released by the Cowboys this earlier this week. This signing will be the Bears third signing of former Cowboys this offseason.
Barber is expected to back up starting running back, Matt Forte. Last season as a part time running back, Barber rushed for 374 yards on 113 carries to go along with four rushing touchdowns.
Barber is a six year veteran(all with the Cowboys). For his career, Barber averages 4.2 yards a carry and has rushed for 47 touchdowns. Another good start for Barber is that he has had just two lost fumbles in his career. Barber is known as a physical runner. He could possibly be a third and short back for the Bears or goaline formation back. Barber is a significant upgrade over the likes of Chester Taylor. Taylor was utilized as the teams’ 3rd down back last season and didn’t find much success.
If all turns out well for the Bears and Barber, can you imagine him in December at Soldier Field.
