Today the Bears continued their free agency rampage into its fifth day with the signing of James Anderson formerly of the Carolina Panthers. Anderson is/was (depending on who you ask) a starting caliber LB with some pretty impressive numbers under his belt. He had 126 and 144 tackle seasons in ‘10 and ‘11 and is all around another very smart pickup by Emery. Although at 30 he isn’t exactly a spring chicken the flexibility his signing provides the Bears in the draft is certainly welcomed. He may not be “the future” of the Bears defense but for now he will bring some sorely needed depth and stability to the Linebackers corps which has thinned considerably this free agency.
