The Khalil Mack era is over in Chicago. Ian Rapoport is reporting the Bears will be sending Mack to the Chargers for a 2022 2nd round and 2023 6th round draft pick. Mack will be returning to the AFC West and lining up along with Joey Bosa. This is a great trade for the Chargers but as a Bears fan, this leaves me feeling very unenthused.
The arms race in the AFC West is on. The #Chargers are loading up to go get QBs, and of course they have one of their own.
So, Khalil Mack to the #Chargers for a 2nd rounder this year and a 6th rounder next year.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 10, 2022
It was really nice to have Robert Quinn emerge while Mack was hurt but this still hurts my soul. Quinn had 18.5 sacks in 2021. This draft capital will allow new Bears GM Ryan Poles to work some of his magic in his first year with the Bears organization. The best part of this trade for the Bears is that it opens up a ton of cap space as the Chargers are taking on the entirety of Mack’s contract.
