New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is leaving one of the most talented offensive rosters in the NFL to try and fix Caleb Williams in 2025.
Johnson had tremendous success with veteran quarterback Jared Goff during his last three seasons with the Detroit Lions. The best offensive line in the NFL, two solid running backs in David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, tight end Sam LaPorta, and wide receivers Amon Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams would make any offensive coordinator’s job a dream.

Johnson knows he doesn’t have that talent in Chicago, but he plans to find out what Williams excels at this spring and will tailor the offense to the Heisman Trophy winner’s strengths.
“Standing on the opposite sideline from (Williams) this year, I gained a tremendous amount of respect for not only the talent level that he possesses but also the type of person he is,” Johnson said on 1920 Football Drive. “And this is going to be really, I like to fancy it the quarterback’s offense. We are going to tailor this right around Caleb Williams.
“It will not be what you’ve seen from me the last three years. We’re going to find out exactly what our quarterback does well, and that’s really what we’re going to anchor on.”
Williams struggled under the Bears’ poor leadership in his rookie season, going through three offensive coordinators in one season. He threw for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns and six interceptions. Williams had issues with throwing the deep ball, something that he had success with as a quarterback in college.
While his numbers weren’t terrible for a rookie, Williams was outplayed by his fellow 2024 first-round quarterback class members Bo Nix and Jayden Daniels. Daniels won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
It’s Johnson’s job to help Williams play like the No. 1 pick.
