The New Jersey Nets were lacking Deron Williams, Kris Humphries and Anthony Morrow as they entered the United Center in the last day of the 2010-11 regular season but did not go down without a fight.
Farmar finished with 21 points and 12 assists for the Nets. His teammates Brook Lopez and Sasha Vujacic also played solid ball in the effort by New Jersey.
The Chicago Bulls’ starters, as a whole, played poorly against Jordan Farmar and the New Jersey Nets.
Rose had a quiet game for the most part but did go on a 10-point burst in the third quarter after the Nets were pushing to extend a 10-point lead to bring them back in the game, but only had one assist in the game.
Joakim Noah had a nice outing in the first half until he banged knees with Nets’ center Brook Lopez early in the third period. He sat out the remainder of the game but did finish with 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Bulls’ head coach Tom Thibodeau pulled the starters in the fourth quarter and rode his bench.
Kyle Korver provided the spark to bring them back from a late 6-point deficit. Net’s coach Avery Johnson started to run with a slow-paced half-court style offense, which seemed to play right in the Bulls’ hands. Kurt Thomas and Taj Gibson effectively stopped the Nets from scoring in the paint.
The Bulls’ second unit scored 50 points in this game. C.J. Watson dished out six assists while Kyle Korver shot 7-of-13 from the field— finishing with 19 points.
The newest addition to the Bulls’ active roster, Rasual Butler, had a great game off the bench. His defense was strong and finished with 10 points of his own, which included the go-ahead three-pointer— giving the Bulls a late 92-90 lead.
The final score of the game was 97-92 in Chicago’s favor.
The Bulls have now clinched having at least the best record in the league. And, at least until the end of the Spurs-Suns bout in Phoenix, Rose and the Bulls currently hold sole possession of the best record in the NBA.
The Spurs currently trail the Suns 33-18 with 3:00 minutes to go in the first quarter.
