With the Bulls signing of Kirk Hinrich earlier today, this left Bulls’ fans questioning whose spot he would be filling. With Derrick Rose recovering from his ACL injury, we had too many guards in the stable.
Today, the Bulls informed C.J. Watson they would not be exercizing their $3.7 million dollar option on him. This news was reported by K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune on Twitter.
As a betting man, I had my money on CJ being cut loose, check this sports betting sites.
C.J. Watson looked to be the odd man out this off-season. Watson and John Lucas III are serviceable point guards but if the Bulls want to make any noise next season, they would need external help.
It’s likely Hinrich will start at point guard in Roses’ absense, with JLIII and Marquis Teague from Kentucky subbing in for him. Upon Rose’s return it will be great to see the two on the court at the same time.
I hope to see Watson play well with whoever picks him up. His blunder in the 76ers series, passing to Omer Asik with the seconds ticking off the clock is fresh on fans’ minds. However, I must remind them about the clutch 3 pointer he hit, to force overtime, when the Bulls defeated the Heat without Rose earlier in the season.
Watson, 28, has played five years in the NBA. Last season, he averaged 9.7 points and 4.1 assists per game. He played in 49 games this season.

Glad you had this posted, I’ve been busy all day and this is the first thing I saw on the news when I was logging into my own account.
I Can’t say I’m sad to see him go, CJ isn’t a bad player, but the bulls have enough supporting cast members who wait for their cues insteading of leading the scene,
The fact that we have a returning player is cool. In 5 seasons (03/04 – 10/11) with the bulls Heinrich avg. about 35mins a game, a FG% of .400, 80% FT avg, although his PPG is only around 9 to 14.
