The Chicago Blackhawks win their third straight game beating the Washington Capitals by a final score of 5-2.
The Blackhawks got on the scoreboard first on a Duncan Keith shot that deflected off the leg of Andrew Shaw and snuck past Washington goaltender Michal Neuvirth to give Chicago a 1-0 lead.
Not long after, Viktor Stalberg blew by Capitals defender Dmitry Orlov and ultimately found the back of the net for his 18th goal of the season that put Chicago up by 2 goals early.
Chicago only allowed 3 shots on goal in the first period of play. To sum it up in a different way, Patrick Sharp had as many shots in the period as Washington.
Minutes in the second period, Mike Knuble cut the lead in half rifling a slap shot past Corey Crawford’s glove side taking advantage of a Niklas Hjalmarsson turnover.
A little over 5 minutes later, a really strong shift resulted in a Patrick Kane goal who found himself right in front of a wide open net and buried his 19th of the season.
Andrew Shaw added to the lead, scoring his second goal of the contest that put Chicago on top 4-1, but Alex Ovechkin quickly snatched that one back keeping the games within arms reach. Unfortunately, their arms weren’t long enough because Bryan Bickell sealed the victory on an empty netter with under 2 minutes to play.
Corey Crawford had a quiet outing stopping 18 of 20 shots, but picked up his third straight victory and 25th of the season. He has now only allowed 3 goals in his last 3 games posting a save percentage of .950%.
