Chicago Blackhawks have signed 29-year old goaltender Ray Emery to a 1-year deal worth $600,000. ESPN’s Pierre Lebrun also confirmed that it is a one-way deal meaning Emery will be paid the same amount of salary in the NHL or AHL.
Blackhawks general manager, Stan Bowman, released this statement after the signing: “We’re in the fortunate position to have to make a difficult decision on two netminders that impressed throughout our entire training camp. Having both Ray Emery and Alexander Salak as a part of the Chicago Blackhawks organization makes us stronger in both the short term and long term.”
With the battle for the backup goaltending position being made official, Alexander Salak has been sent to Rockford along with Jimmy Hayes, Marcus Kruger, Peter LeBlanc, Brandon Pirri and Dylan Olsen cutting the roster to 26 players (16 forwards, 8 defensemen, 2 goalies).
NHL rosters need to be set by Wednesday, October 5th at 2:00pm CT.
