The Chicago Blackhawks snap their 3-game losing streak defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets by a final score of 6-3.
It was a stronger performance by the Blackhawks, however, not exactly validating against a 2-win Blue Jackets team. The defense played a solid game, but stepped off the gas pedal a little bit in the third period allowing 2 goals, one on the power play. Offensively, all 6 defenseman combined for 8 points.
The stars were a no-show on Tuesday vs St. Louis, but definitely got off the bus tonight as Toews buried 2 goals (also tacked on an assist) while Kane and Hossa found the back of the net as well. Andrew Brunette scored his third goal of the season on the power play. Steve Montador earned himself a “Gordie Howe” hat trick recording a fight, assist and goal.
How did the special teams perform? The power play registered 2 goals out of 3 possible chances and ultimately got pucks to the net. Yes, you read that correctly, 2 power play goals in one game! That’s a step in the right direction. The penalty kill is still struggling, finished 3-for-5 on the night.
Corey Crawford stopped 27 of 30 shots but wasn’t really tested until the second period and didn’t make any eye-opening saves, except a couple later on in the game.
WHAT’S NEXT?
The Blackhawks head back home to take on the Calgary Flames; puck drop at 7:30pm CT!
