Bob Uecker, a well known Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster, story teller, jokester, movie star in the Major League series, and television icon for his role in the ’80s sitcom Mr. Belvedere and multiple appearances on The Tonight Show, has passed away at 90 years old.
Uecker undoubtedly impacted the lives of millions throughout his lifespan, with current Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell being one of them. Counsell, a Wisconsin native, former Brewers player from 2007-2011, and former manager of the Brew Crew from 2015-2023, was closely connected to Uecker, even after accepting the Cubs managerial position.
Craig Counsell reflected on the life of Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker
At Cubs Convention, Counsell took a few moments to reflect on the life of Uecker. “Baseball lost a great man yesterday, Bob Uecker. He was a treasured friend for me, somebody who taught me a lot about just living, frankly — like, how to live. I’m — as we all are — saddened to lose a great baseball man.”

“It was always great for me to see how excited the players were to meet him”
All the way up to 90 years old, Uecker was still one of the guys. While he stopped traveling a few years ago, he was always welcomed in the club house and was the center of attention during the Brewers playoff celebrations over the years. At Cubs Convention, Counsell said, “It was always great for me to see how excited players were to meet him. Home players, visiting players, players’ parents. Like, ‘Can you introduce me to Bob Uecker? And that kind of tells you everything, right? The players loved to see him every day. He had a great way about him that made him feel like one of the guys.”
It’s clear that the baseball community lost one of the greats in Bob Uecker, but his stories and legacy will forever be remembered.
