Well … more or less he commented back. Jenks, in an interview with Rob Bradford commented on the tweet tirade by Oney Guillen. Jenks said, “I’m not really disappointed because there was no one who was affiliated with the team that was talking crap” Very true because Oney no longer works for the sox following another twitter outburst which lead to his firing. Bobby decided to take the high road in responding to Oney.
What did Bobby do to earn the honor of being Oney’s goat? All Bobby did was give his honest opinion, and In an interview with MLB.com’s Scott Merkin (and frequent Pale and Hosed contributer) Bobby said, “I’ll always respect [Guillen] as a person and give him credit that’s due, But I want to play for a manager who trusts his relievers, regardless of what’s going on”. Bullpen management by Ozzie has been suspect over the years. We have all talked about it. But to Ozzie’s credit he did stick with Bobby even when everybody could see he was getting the job done.
It seems most people disagreed with Oney’s solution. Shortly after the incident Matt Thornton was quoted as saying, “with Oney tweeting what he did, that’s crossing a pretty big line in my personal opinion…It’s definitely gotta be addressed and taken care of real quick around here.” Gordon Beckham said, “Me and Joey talked a little bit about it … The players and coaches are on the same page. We want to go out and compete. We don’t want outside drama to fill the locker room. This year, we’re going to try and totally concentrate on baseball”. Last season was marred by off-field distractions, most of which were caused by people outsiders.
It’s time to put this situation to rest because, in the scheme of things it doesn’t really matter and the off-field garbage has got to stop.
