Two Chicago Cubs made history on Tuesday night as the team defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-0 and improved their magic number to three.
Rookie Kris Bryant hit his 26th home run of the season, passing Billy Williams on the Cubs list of most in a season by a rookie. Bryant also broke the record for most RBI’s in a season by a Cubs rookie with the home run.
Bryant may have been upstaged however by starting pitcher Jake Arrieta who continued his post All-Star game dominance. Arrieta went the full nine innings, striking out 11 batters and giving up just three hits and no runs. Arrieta won his 20th game of the season, hitting the milestone with possibly two starts left.
Since the All-star break Arriet has posted a .48 ERA in 10 starts. The Cubs drenched Arrieta in Gatorade following the win.
With the win the Cubs will remain in the second NL Wild Card spot.
