Win: George Kontos (1-1) Loss: Shawn Camp (0-1) Save: Sergio Romo (7)
Home Runs: SF: Pence (4) CHC: Castro (2), Schierholtz (2), Gonzalez (1)
The Good: The Cubs offense showed up again today, as the offense put up four runs in the first inning. They also showed resilience by scoring two runs in the bottom of the 8th, which gave them the lead at the time. Edwin Jackson threw well over his first five innings and ended up fanning nine. Starlin Castro had three hits for the second straight game.
The Bad: Edwin Jackson melted down in the sixth, giving up a 3 run lead. At the plate, Anthony Rizzo fanned three times and Dioner Navarro and Luis Valbuena both went 0-4.
The Ugly: There seems to be a ton of ugly in recent games. Shawn Camp, who was a reliable as they get last season, imploded in the 9th and 10th, allowing a Home Run to Hunter Pence with two outs and two strikes in the ninth before allowing three runs in the Top of the 10th. In the top of the 6th, the Cubs threw 5 wild pitches, and all of them could have arguably been stopped by Dioner Navarro.
The Stat: A scoreless inning from Carlos Marmol improved his ERA to 7.94.
Notes: The Cubs claimed right hander Kameron Loe off of waivers from the Mariners. He has had a brutal year so far, allowing 6 home runs in 6.1 innings. The Cubs placed Steve Clevenger on the 60 Day DL to make room on the 40 man roster for him, and optioned Rafael Dolis to Triple A Iowa to make room for him on the 25 man roster.
Darwin Barney will be activated from the DL on Tuesday.
