In a bit of shocking news today, the Bulls have sent second-year point guard Marquis Teague to the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League. Teague was the Bulls first-round pick in 2012 as a freshman from Kentucky and has struggled in two years to gain consistent playing time from coach Tom Thibodeau, despite numerous injuries to Derrick Rose and Kirk Hinrich over the past two seasons.
This move leaves the Bulls with only 10 healthy bodies on the active roster and it will be interesting to see what corresponding moves are made.
There has been rumors of a rift between Thibodeau and management in regards to Teague’s future on the Bulls, and this shows that the Bulls want Teague to get consistent playing time at some level of basketball, not just relying on Teague to take “mental reps” in practice.
