Even the Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz isn’t high on expectations for the team in 2025. The main goal for the White Sox appears to be to try and win more than the 41 games the team did last year.
Chicago will do so with a payroll hovering around $75 million, nearly half of what it was in 2024 when they had Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada, and Garrett Crochet.
The Athletic posted their offseason grades for each MLB team in 2025. They listed starting pitcher Martin Perez, infielder Josh Rojas, and outfield Austin Slater as three key additions for the White Sox in the offseason.
A “C” grade for the Chicago White Sox?

For Getz’s efforts, the White Sox were given a “C” grade for the offseason.
Via The Athletic:
“Chicago’s payroll has shrunk by roughly half compared to last season, dropping to 28th in MLB at about $80 million. But this White Sox offseason was never going to be about adding talent to the major-league roster following a record-setting 121 losses in 2024. They accomplished the primary objectives of getting a solid prospect haul from the Red Sox for Garrett Crochet and hiring a new manager in Will Venable.
However, they weren’t able to cash in Luis Robert Jr. for whatever value he has left, perhaps hoping that a healthy first half will generate a bit more interest at the trade deadline. Everything else is just window dressing for another loss-filled year of non-competitive baseball. White Sox fans probably wish “sim to next season” was an option in real life.”
2025 will be dreadful

Sim to next season? Might want to fast forward a few more years.
A “C” grade feels generous for a White Sox team that won’t be watchable in 2025. While they might be more competitive next season, Chicago would need an aggressive front office to add pieces to the roster in the 2026 offseason for the team to be competitive even next season.
There’s no reason for the fan base to think owner Jerry Reinsdorf will put a competitive team on the field for a few seasons unless a young core emerges from the blue light special clubhouse.
