Kris Bryant is on a tear for the Chicago Cubs.
The 24-year-old slugger is a favorite to win the NL MVP award this season. In 126 games this season, Bryant is hitting .305 with 35 home runs, 89 RBI and 107 runs scored. He’s slugging .588 and has an OPS of .986.
There’s still a lot of baseball to be played this year, but if Bryant keeps it up then he’s probably going to win the MVP.
Fox Sports baseball writer Ken Rosenthal had an interesting piece on Bryant and his MVP run. He mentions that Bryant could join St. Louis Cardinals legend Stan Musial with a unique distinction:
Musial is the only player to win an MVP award after a season in which he started 30 games in both the infield and outfield, according to STATS LLC.
Bryant could become the second.
Bryant’s multi-position versatility, however, sets him apart, making him exceptionally valuable.
The rules of the voting state, “There is no clear-cut definition of what Most Valuable means.” But the criteria include, “Actual value of a player to his team; that is, strength of offense and defense,” and, “General character, loyalty, disposition and effort.”
Bryant and Musial? That’s elite company. But I wonder how Cardinals fans are going to take this article. Let’s check in.
And holy smokes:
he plays different positions because he's not good enough to play a premium position

Stan should be off limits for comparison right? He's an all-time great. Bryant is very good, but let's not get too far ahead.

Kris Bryant having MVP-caliber season, but Stan Musial comp by @Ken_Rosenthal is a major stretch. Also rips on BFIB. https://t.co/0NrqXwSuBU

Can you imagine the outrage if Kenny Rosenthal wrote a piece saying Randal Grichuk was a better player than Ernie Banks? Oh. My. God.

I feel bad for Daniel Murphy. Guy is having monster year and is going to lose out on the MVP because Kris Bryant plays for the Cubs.

Rough day for Cardinals fans.
