Charles Tillman to retire a Chicago Bear

Charles “Peanut” Tillman will live on forever as a member of the Chicago Bears as he signs a 1-day contract today, only to retire officially.

Tillman spent 12 of his 13 years in the NFL as a member of the Monsters of the Midway with the only other year spent last season as a member of the Carolina Panthers.

In 2003, the Bears drafted him in the second round out of Louisiana-Lafayaette. Tillman went on to become the franchise leader in interceptions returned for a touchdown with eight as well as the leader for forced fumbles with a whopping 42. Since 2003, Tillman’s 42 are the most in the NFL with Charles Woodson finishing second with 23.

The staggering amount of fumbles was from his famed “Peanut Punch” which lead to the Bears defense being so good for so long. Peanut was also third in franchise history for interceptions with 36.

Post-retirement, Tillman will be joining Fox NFL as an analyst for this upcoming season. Former Chicago Bears great Brian Urlacher also joined Fox out of retirement, but stepped down in 2014 . Click here to see some of Charles Tillman’s best moments as a member of the Chicago Bears.
