Edge
This is a need for the Chicago Bears that has been discussed ad nauseam. The team has Montez Sweat and his $98 million deal. However, he needs some protection so opponents don’t neutralize him by sending double or triple teams his way.
Poles did select Austin Booker in the fifth round of the draft. However, what he does is a big question. He played in only 18 career games in college, only 505 snaps. He did not look like an inexperienced player in his film, though. He looked like an NFL-ready player with a variety of moves. Also, he is incredibly athletic.
The Bears still need a player without as many questions. They could re-sign Yannick Ngakoue. He knows the Chicago Bears’ defense. While he had one of his worst seasons last year, he did show improvement once Sweat arrived in Chicago. He had half of his four sacks and one-third of his 22 tackles in just five games with Sweat.
Ngakoue could have a sour taste in his mouth knowing he could have turned his season around with Sweat. Having a full season with him and showing he can still get the job done could be attractive. Additionally, having Sweat and Ngakoue mentor Booker could be exactly what Booker needs for him to rocket into a long, successful career.
