The Chicago Bears should avoid local prospects
Poles hinted at the League Annual Meeting he sees value in taking local talent. And while that can work in some situations, that shouldn’t be the deciding factor in a draft pick. Skoronski has been a Chicago media favorite in this draft. But he has too many red flags, specifically his arm length, to risk the ninth pick for an offensive guard.
The same logic applies to Iowa defensive end Lukas Van Ness, an Illinois native who has connections to tight end Cole Kmet. Van Ness could progress into a top-tier defender in a few years. But he doesn’t seem to have the skills to be an impact player right out of the gate. The Bears need a home run hitter this season with the ninth overall pick.
