Shaq Lawson
Last season, Poles waited a long time before finally signing a veteran edge rusher. He had Walker and Rasheem Green, but many felt the Chicago Bears needed another quality veteran. He waited until August before he picked someone up.
Perhaps this season he should work a little sooner. Having someone come in early enough before training camp could help the new guy adjust quicker to the system.
One player who can help is Shaq Lawson. He was the Buffalo Bills first-round pick in 2016. He also played with the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets.
While Lawson spent his entire career in the AFC East he has connections with new Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington. Given that he was the 19th overall pick, his career has been a disappointment. However, his familiarity with Washington, along with having Sweat on the other side, he could make an impact.
Also, he could split time with Walker while rookie fifth-round pick Austin Booker could back Sweat up. Booker is an immensely talented player who just needs some snaps. He only had 505 snaps played in his college career. He can learn a lot from Sweat while the duo of Walker and Lawson handle the other side.
With the talented Sweat on the other side, Lawson may even get to finally fulfill his potential and make an impact. That would revive his career.
