Emmanuel Ogbah
Emmanuel Ogbah is an interesting subject. He is likely the best pass rusher still available at the moment. He was the Cleveland Browns’ second-round pick in 2016 He offers the Chicago Bears a lot of flexibility. In his career, he has lined up all over – both sides of the edge, nose tackle, and even linebacker.
Washington could move Ogbah around and help the Chicago Bears’ pass rush tremendously. He could attract the double-teams that would free up space for Sweat. Additionally, he could line up in other spots on the line and give additional help to the interior linemen.
In the 2020 and 2021 seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Ogbah was his most effective. He recorded 18 sacks, 45 quarterback hits, and 83 total tackles (15 for loss). However, he suffered a triceps injury in 2022 that limited him to nine games. Last season, he had a decent season coming back, recording 5.5 sacks. After missing half a season, it might take a season to get his “sea legs” back.
However, the Dolphins had salary cap troubles so they had to shed contracts. Ogbah was one of the cap casualties. Now he could pick the team he wants to play for and show he is back.
There will be several teams that want Ogbah’s services. He may return to Miami but at a reduced rate. Additionally, he spent one season with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 and won the Super Bowl. He may want to return and go on another title run there.
Again, though, the Chicago Bears are the “It” team right now. With the legendary history of great defensive players that came out of Chicago, helping them get back into the playoffs could be a great move for him. When you win with the Bears you become a legend so that could be attractive to him.
