Yannick Ngakoue
Of course, Poles and the Chicago Bears could decide to keep the continuity and have Yannick Ngakoue return. Yes, he had the worst season of his career with the Bears last season. He recorded career lows in sacks (4) and tackles (22). However, the Bears might have something with him and Sweat.
In the five games he played after Sweat went to the Chicago Bears, Ngakoue recorded half of his sacks and about a third of his tackles. Then he suffered a fractured ankle that shut down his season. Perhaps those five games with Sweat were enough to show that there may be some good chemistry between the two players.
If Ngakoue shows that he is over his ankle injury Poles may want to bring him back. Ngakoue already knows the system so there will be no learning curve to deal with. He knows what is expected and where each player should be on any given play. Additionally, if he indeed is healthy again, he can draw attention away from Sweat. Giving Sweat more one-on-ones will help him wreak havoc in the backfield.
Moreover, imagine having Ngakoue and Sweat as Booker’s mentors. Both of them could be of greater help to the youngster’s development than the coaches. They could help him understand the intricacies of the position and help make him a better player.
Booker already showed how good he could be as a reserve. In that role with the Kansas Jayhawks in 2023, he ranked fourth in total tackles, and led the team in sacks with eight and tackles for loss with 12. With Ngakoue and Sweat helping out, he could really develop into a budding star. Ngakoue could also help usher in a new era of winning for the Chicago Bears.
