Calais Campbell, EDGE
Calais Campbell has an impressive resume in his career. He is a six-time Pro Bowler, one-time All-Pro, Defensive Player of the Year, and All-2010s Team. Additionally, his community work garnered him both the Alan Page Award and the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
As mentioned before, Sweat needs some protection. While he is 37 years old, Campbell is still pretty productive. He has 12 sacks in the past two seasons. Opponents still have to pay him some attention. That takes pressure off of Sweat. Without having to see as many double teams, he can wreak havoc in the backfield.
We saw how Sweat’s arrival to Chicago settled the defense. With him putting pressure on quarterbacks the Chicago Bears secondary was able to feast on mistakes. The unit ranked fifth in total turnovers and first in interceptions.
Campbell and Sweat would make an excellent duo. Additionally, Campbell would not be expensive. A one-year deal would suffice. The Bears drafted Austin Booker but he is the future. He only has 18 games under his belt and just 505 total snaps. He is supremely talented and athletic so playing in a reserve role to begin his career and watching Sweat and Campbell would help his development.
