Keenan Allen, Wide Receiver
Signing Allen was a real surprise for Chicago Bears Nation. Sure, the team had to use an important fourth-round draft pick. The Bears did not have many picks and using one in the fourth round was important. However, Allen is a six-time Pro Bowl receiver. Spending a fourth-round pick on a player with his abilities was a bargain.
While Allen had a Pro Bowl season in 2023, he is 32 years old now. He has more big seasons behind him than in front of him. Additionally, he has a history of injury
problems. In his career, he missed 40 games due to injury. Just in the last two seasons, he missed 11 games.
Another question is whether Allen will continue beyond 2024. He already contemplated retirement when the Los Angeles Chargers approached him to re-work his contract. He refused and thought about retirement until the trade was made. The question now is whether he just plays out the final year of his contract (which pays him $23.1 million) or he continues to play.
If people think Allen lost a step they will be mistaken. He showed that he still has plenty in his tank. He is an elite route-runner and knows all the tricks to beat defenders. He will be a great asset for the young receivers. They can model their game after Allen. Also, Allen can help in Williams’ development. He will show Williams where the ball should be placed.
Allen will continue to show his skills during camp. People will be impressed with how well he still plays.
